Single Tooth Implants
One missing tooth can change the way you chew, and over time the teeth beside the gap can drift or tip. A single tooth implant fills that gap with a new tooth anchored in your jaw, so the teeth either side are left alone.
What is a single tooth implant?
There are three parts:
- The implant – a small titanium post placed in the jawbone, where the tooth root used to be.
- The abutment – the connector that joins the implant to your new tooth.
- The crown – the part you see and chew with, custom-made and shade-matched to your other teeth.
Who it suits
A single implant may be an option if you have one missing tooth, or a tooth that needs to come out, along with healthy gums and enough bone to hold the implant. If the bone has thinned, a bone graft can often rebuild it first.
Your treatment, step by step
- Consultation and 3D scan – we check the bone, gums and bite, then talk through your options.
- Implant placement – the implant is placed under local anaesthetic, with sedation available if you’d prefer. If the tooth still needs to come out, this can sometimes be done at the same visit.
- Healing – around three months while the bone bonds to the implant. For front teeth, we can usually fit a temporary tooth so you’re not left with a gap.
- Digital scan – once healed, we scan the implant to design your crown.
- Crown fit – your crown is fitted, the bite adjusted, and we book your review.
Implant, bridge or denture?
Each option has trade-offs, and the right one depends on your mouth.
| Single implant | Bridge | Partial denture | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How it’s held | Anchored in the jawbone | Attached to the teeth either side | Clips onto other teeth |
| Neighbouring teeth | Left untouched | Usually filed down for crowns | Clasps rest on them |
| Removable | No | No | Yes |
| Surgery | Yes | No | No |
| Typical time | 3-6 months | 2-3 weeks | 2-4 weeks |
Cost
Single tooth implants start from $4,500, including the implant, abutment and crown. Extractions, bone grafting or sedation are quoted separately if you need them. You’ll get a written quote after your consultation. Payment plans are available.

Frequently asked questions
Usually three to six months from placement to final crown, depending on healing and whether you need a graft.
For front teeth, we can usually fit a temporary tooth. For back teeth, a gap during healing is common and rarely noticed.
You'll stick to softer food for the first few days. Once the crown is fitted, you can chew on it like your other teeth.
Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Results vary between individuals, and a consultation is needed to confirm suitability. Before going ahead, you may wish to seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner. This information is general in nature and is not a substitute for personal advice.
